Description

Abdominalis Wasp- Aphelinus abdominalis is a parasitoid wasp of large sized aphids such as; Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Potato aphid) and Aulacorthum solani (Foxglove aphid). Adult wasps are black and yellow and 3 mm long with short antennae.

They can parasitize any stage of aphids, including alates (winged forms). Their mummies (pupae) turn black, seven days after an egg is laid and an adult wasp emerges 14 days later. A. abdominalis females will also host feed on aphids, killing about two/day and can supplementary feed on aphid honeydew.
